  • Late May 2026 – Stopped receiving Hotmail emails on iPhone.
  • Late May 2026 – Removed Hotmail account from iPhone to reinstall.
  • Immediately afterward – Could no longer sign in.
  • June 2026 – Received one recovery response saying there wasn’t enough information.
  • June–July 2026 – Submitted additional recovery forms with contacts and subject lines but received no further responses.
  • Created a new OUTLOOK email address as a new contact address.
  • Password is believed to be correct, but Microsoft reports it as incorrect and then requires verification through a landline number. I respectfully request that help in determining whether my recovery requests are being received and advise if there is an alternative path to verify ownership of this longstanding account.

Since you are not aware of any 25-character codes, this means that you didn't enable the two-factor authentication (2FA) feature in your account.

However in this case, your only option to recover your account is through the account recovery webform.

Please follow this workaround to recover your account and to update your account's security info (landline number):

account.microsoft.com > click "Forgot Password" > select "I don't have any of these" > then you will be redirected to the ACSR form.

Providing as much information as possible will increase the chances of being verified through the automated process.

If your recovery request is successful, you will be asked to wait 30 days in order to update your security info and recover your account.

During this time, you will not be able to sign in to sites or services with your account.

You may check these guidance notes on how to fill out the form through this link: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/guidance-notes-for-the-microsoft-account-recovery-form-4dd8fef1-33d2-4fbe-9352-66127ab9b50e

In case you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to assist you with manual recovery, unblock, and escalation for this case, as stated in this article, that they are not permitted to send password resets, access, or even change any details on the account:

In case you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, do you still have the 25-character recovery codes for the 2FA?

If yes, please go to account.microsoft.com > Forgot Password > provide the codes from your verification methods to reset your password and if none, click "I don't have any of these" > click "Yes" on the 25 recovery code (if you have one) > from here, you will be asked to wait 30 days in order to update your security info and recover your account.

During this time, you will not be able to sign in to sites or services with your account.

If you do not have access to all of your verification methods and the 25-recovery codes from your 2FA, I'm afraid it is no longer possible to recover the account.

However, if you do not have 2FA and since you can't receive verification codes for a password reset just as you mentioned, the only way to recover the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Please go to account.microsoft.com > click "Forgot Password" > select "I don't have any of these" > then you will be redirected to the ACSR form.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If your recovery request is successful, you will be asked to wait 30 days in order to update your security info and recover your account.

During this time, you will not be able to sign in to sites or services with your account.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Just to confirm, did you have two-factor authentication (2FA) active on the account?

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl
